D'une incarcération au bagne : l'itinéraire tchèque de Patrice Chéreau

Si l’œuvre de Patrice Chéreau est apparue dans le paysage tchécoslovaque dès 1978, son premier contact physique avec le pays est lié à son engagement en faveur du dramaturge Vaclav Havel et à un très rapide passage dans le pays. Par la suite, c’est la mise en scène fameuse d’un opéra de Leoš Janáček De la maison des morts, qui a retissé le lien. Au-delà de ces deux épisodes, ce texte évoquera la réception de l’homme et de son œuvre en Pays tchèques des années 1970 à sa disparition.

From Incarceration to Jailhouse:  The Czech path of Patrice Chereau
If the work of Patrice Chéreau appeared in the Czechoslovakian landscape from 1978 on, his first physical contact with the country was due to his commitment to the playwright Vaclav Havel and to a very short passage in the country.  Afterwards, it is the famous staging of Leos Janacek's opera that reconnected the link between the author and the country.   This paper will trace the reception of Chereau and his work, beyond these two episodes, in Czech countries from the 1970s to his death.
